High School Play to Be Performed in Dinner Theatre Format

In a change of venue and format, the Bexley High School Fall play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, will be performed as a dinner theatre event in the Cassingham Elementary Gymnasium on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 11 and 12. This production will be presented in a dinner theatre format, with dinner courses being served during the show.

Patrons can choose to attend the performance with or without dinner included. Those who want to participate in dinner must reserve their tickets early.

The play will be performed three times: Saturday, Oct. 11, at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. and on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m.

THE STORY: A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a comedy by William Shakespeare that explores love, magic, and the human experience. The play intertwines the stories of two young couples, a group of amateur actors rehearsing a play, and feuding fairies in a forest setting. Through misadventures, mistaken identities, and magical interventions, the play examines the irrationality and transformative power of love, culminating in a triple wedding and a comical play within a play.

Jim Basketball Jones Encourages Cassingham Students to Make a Difference and ‘Be the One’

Jim Basketball Jones has a knack for engaging students, so when he encouraged Cassingham Elementary students last week to be kind, their smiles and cheers matched the positivity of his message!

Mr. Jones has been a popular motivational speaker for nearly 30 years and has spoken to students around the U.S. and beyond. He met with Cassingham students last Friday for the second consecutive school year.

His message is simple: Be kind and do the right thing. Using his basketball skills and tricks to keep the students engaged, he talked with them about “boomerang kindness“ – Be kind and kindness will come back to you!

Much of his presentation involves encouraging students with positive words and phrases and asking students to repeat them back, which Cassingham students did eagerly and loudly.

His encouragement included many meaningful messages:

You only rise to your preparation!

So do the work! Prepare!

I’ll be the one. I’ll be the difference!

I’ll do something, I’ll be kind first!

Be the one who stands up for others.

Look out! Help out! Do something!

Be the one!

Students were selected to join Mr. Jones on stage throughout the assembly. Many received special Jim Basketball Jones pencils, and some received basketballs. It didn’t matter which, as the students were happy to be part of the event.

Mr. Jones is also an author of children’s books. Along with his wife, he has published Bouncy The Basketball that Couldn’t Bounce, a book about friendship and finding one’s special gift. He also wrote Bouncy and The Power of Yet and Bouncy and Cal’s Big Show.

From the City of Bexley: Idling Is Fuelish!

Bexley, let’s turn the key!

The City of Bexley encourages everyone not to let October idle away. Instead, we are asked to be idle free!

Each of us can take care of our car, wallet, and the environment by simply turning the key to be idle free. It is estimated that 3 billion gallons of fuel are wasted each year from light-duty vehicle idling.

Image is of an illustration of a light blue car with the words in dark blue that say Idling Is Fuelish

By doing our part, we can reduce these emissions and spare our car’s engines, which can be damaged by too much idling. Stopping and restarting an engine produces fewer emissions than idling for 10 seconds, so please, turn off your vehicle instead of idling for 10 seconds or more. Idling is fuelish; don’t be a fossil fool.
