FAMILY UPDATE

Dear Families:

This year's Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons with our school counselors have focused on Kindness and Respect so far this year. This month our focus is on Responsibility. We are asking for your help in having conversations with your student(s) about how we demonstrate kindness and respect. Ask your student what this looks like at school, what do these words look like in our community? We all need to be responsible for following school and event rules and School Board Policies.

We are looking forward to another great week in our classrooms!

Thanks for your partnership!

Nyesha Clayton, Montrose Elementary School Principal

Rachel Niswander, Maryland Elementary School Principal

David Schottner , Cassingham Elementary School Principal

BCS Athletic Event Guidelines

Lions are Safe, Respectful, Responsible, and Kind

Just like the school day, we have expectations for our students during school events.

You may see the full list of guidelines online. Procedures include, but are not limited to the following:

  • An adult must accompany elementary students or younger children to gain entrance into an athletic contest, and the adult must supervise the students they take to an athletic event.
  • All district playgrounds close at dark. This includes the Cassingham playground and softball field.
  • For events at outdoor and indoor venues: Facial coverings, such as ski masks, scarves, and bandanas covering the face, must be removed at admittance but are permitted inside all athletic venues. Religious facial coverings such as the burqa and niqab are exempt from this rule.
  • Protective facial coverings, such as masks designed to contain droplets and particles you breathe, cough, or sneeze, must be removed at admittance but are permitted inside all athletic venues.
  • Backpacks or bags will only be permitted if the bag’s contents are required for a designated purpose (i.e., medical equipment bags, diaper bags, camera bags). In such instances bags will be searched before being allowed into the venue.
  • Small purses no larger than 5”x8”x1” will be permitted. Purses larger than this size will not be allowed.

Students, parents/guardians, and fans are encouraged to allow extra time to enter an athletic venue prior to the event’s start.

Counseling Updates

Starting mid-October, the elementary School Counselors will deliver the Safe and Supported Lessons to each of our K-5 students. Through this unit, students learn how to identify trusted adults, set healthy personal boundaries, recognize red flags in friendships, support friends in crisis, and care for their own well-being through an age-appropriate curriculum.

These lessons may be sensitive, but they are essential, in addition to being a state requirement. Please visit this link for more information. Ohio Department of Education and Workforce website.

If you have any questions or would like to preview the material (in person) please contact your school counselor.

If you do not want your child to participate in the lessons, please send written communication to your school counselor by October 8.

DARN Coat Drive

DARN is collecting winter coats in all sizes (youth and adult) for members of  our community! From Sept 15-Oct 24, there will be a collection box in our school lobby for you to donate new or gently used winter coats.

DARN is a Bexley-based charitable organization (and recognized 501c3) that has been helping local families in need since 2003. To learn more about their mission & philosophy, or to make a donation, please visit their website at bexleydarn.org.
